Kim Smith, Director of Dietary Services
A professional with more than 16 years experience in the food service industry, Kim Smith is an experienced Executive Chef and Food Service Director and is known in the business for her creativity and signature recipes. She received a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management from Johnson and Wales University, and learned her trade as a sous chef at the famous El Morocco Restaurant in Worcester, MA. Over the years, she has served as Executive Chef for both senior independent living and assisted living communities, most recently at Senior Living Residences’ Methuen Village in Methuen, MA.
As Director of Dietary Services for SLR, Ms. Smith oversees the dining programs at the company’s owned and managed senior communities. She is responsible for the oversight of budgeting and purchasing, on-site labor, menu planning, customer service, hospitality training, and food service quality assurance. Ms. Smith coordinates the company’s food service with an emphasis on special dietary concerns and compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Additionally, she is in charge of developing new recipes and training SLR associates in the company’s innovative Memory Preservation Nutrition® Program, a nutrition program comprised of “brain healthy” foods which, current research shows, has beneficial effects for those with memory loss.
Ms. Smith has received numerous awards for her work, most recently in 2008 for the “Best Presentation of Chocolate” at the New Hampshire Caregivers Association’s “Chocolate Lovers Fantasy” event, which featured the creations of 59 local chefs and store owners. She also won Best Chowder in the Salem Chowder Fest in 2006.
Ms. Smith is Serv Safe Certified. She is a member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA).
