Medicaid Assistance

In many states, Medicaid programs cover the cost of daily personal care services at Assisted Living comunities for low-income persons who meet program eligibility requirements. Most often, in order to qualify residents must require assistance with one or more Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), e.g., bathing, dressing, grooming, eating and/or ambulating. In addition, residents must meet income and financial asset thresholds.

Some, not all, Assisted Living communities participate in Medicaid programs.

Often an Assisted Living community will submit the appropriate documentation to Medicaid and get reimbursed directly from Medicaid for personal care services rendered. In many cases, the resident, and his or her family, are responsible for paying the monthly rental fee covering accommodations, meals and other included benefits of residency in assisted living, such as the activities and wellness programs.
