MALDEN, MA –On March 3rd, Denise Thorud gave a talk on Alzheimer’s disease and related memory impairments to the Sunday School class at Templo Dos Milagres (TDM Church) in Malden. Thorud, a Certified Dementia Practitioner, serves as the Director of Compass Memory Support Programming at Forestdale Park, Malden’s newest senior community which opened last Spring. At this talk, Thorud covered topics such as the distinction between normal aging and Alzheimer’s, the different types of dementia, as well as effective communication tools when talking to someone exhibiting symptoms of memory loss. Seminars like this one are part of Forestdale Park’s Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative, which aims to spread awareness and education surrounding memory loss to the Malden community and beyond.
