Farmington Station Resident Celebrates Milestone 100th Birthday

FARMINGTON, CT – Nan Canavan, a New Britain native and longtime Plainville resident, celebrated her 100th birthday this June at Farmington Station Senior Living. Nan celebrated the milestone birthday with an outdoor garden party surrounded by family and friends at the Assisted Living and Compass Memory Support community.

Born and raised in New Britain, Nan was the youngest of six children. She met her husband Bill, a sailor in the Navy during World War II, through her older brother and the couple married in 1946 before moving to Newport, Rhode Island.

The couple lived in New Britain as they raised their children, and in 1965, they built a new house and settled in Plainville, making many friends and enjoying the friendship of their neighbors throughout the years. In 2016, the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before Bill sadly passed away in 2017.

Nan is best known by her family and friends as a talented scratch chef and baker, and everyone looked forward to her homemade meals and pies. She also greatly enjoyed ladies tea, entertaining for holidays, and traveling with her husband and family. She is an avid gardener who loves flowers, especially white blossoms that she would paint.
