SLR Marlboro Grand Opening Celebrates Creativity & Innovation in Marlboro, NJ

MARLBORO, NJ – Senior Living Residences is proud to announce the grand opening of Senior Living Residences Marlboro (SLR Marlboro). On June 1st, SLR assumed management of the Assisted Living and Memory Support community formerly known as The Chelsea at Marlboro, which originally opened in the fall of 2015.
Boston-based Senior Living Residences has been at the forefront of developing and providing service-enriched Independent Living, Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s care options for seniors across New England since 1990. SLR is renowned for their innovative programs that improve seniors’ quality of life, including Compass Memory Support, which aims to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease through research-based programming. SLR Marlboro is Senior Living Residences’ 19th community and their first in New Jersey.
“I’m excited to bring SLR’s unique operational approach to this building, rooted in giving residents the best possible quality of life and valuing the associates who recognize that mission,” shared Tadd Clelland, SLR’s President & CEO. “While we only assumed management on June 1st, we’ve already made some important and impactful changes that residents, families and staff have been immediately proud of. I’m confident this community will quickly become the preferred assisted living community in this region of New Jersey.”
One of SLR’s most well-known and innovative programs, Brain Healthy Cooking, has already been a hit with residents and their families. Drawing inspiration from the core tenets of the Mediterranean Diet, Brain Healthy Cooking brings each meal to life by sourcing fresh local ingredients, serving fresh fish daily, maintaining a scratch kitchen and prioritizing ingredients that are proven to boost cognitive and whole body health (i.e. dark leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, nuts, legumes and olive oil).

SLR’s Director of Culinary and Dining Services, Kim Chaisson, has completely transformed the community’s kitchen and dining room into a restaurant-style experience. Bob, a resident at SLR Marlboro, remarked after just one week, “The change has been so amazing. [Kim] came out the first night with a food setting that was unbelievable. I never ate food here before. My favorite meal would be, believe it or not, the haddock!”
Residents and their guests can also choose from an always-available menu featuring staples like an array of salads, burgers and grilled chicken, which prompted one family member to remark, “This is like a diner!”
SLR made history in 2009 as the first assisted living company in the nation to introduce a dining program based on the Mediterranean Diet. In 2014, SLR launched a partnership with Oldways, the original creator of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid, to provide coaching for their Chefs and stay up-to-date on the latest news and research about how the diet promotes healthy aging.
Residents aren’t the only ones thrilled by this transition. Associates appreciate SLR’s transparent communication, professional development and training opportunities, and extensive package of benefits and perks. Said one Resident Care Associate, Manu Gjyriqi, “We’re so happy to be SLR. We are grateful because we are more supported, the food is great, the programs are great, and we appreciate everything you do in this building for us.”
SLR is an award-winning employer with recognition from USA Today, Great Place to Work® Institute, and the Boston Globe based on nominations by their own employees, who have highlighted a welcoming culture, the belief that their work makes a difference, and being respected and valued for their contributions as reasons why they love coming to work each day.
