Former Massachusetts State Trooper and Korean War Veteran, Joseph White, was celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Award surrounded by dozens of family members, friends, and uniformed and retired officers at Cornerstone at Milford on Sunday, January 18th. The assisted living and memory support community held the ceremony to celebrate White’s outstanding personal and professional achievements.
White was thanked for his years of service and his unwavering commitment to protecting the Commonwealth and the nation. Fellow state troopers reflected on how he helped pave the way for future generations of officers. Following the ceremony, guests gathered for a reception, where they had the opportunity to speak with Joe and thank him personally for his dedication to serving the people of Massachusetts and the U.S.
White grew up in Natick and graduated from Natick High School. After he joined the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War. After discharge, he passed the grueling Massachusetts State Police Academy exam and went on to become a state trooper. White met and married his wife, Peggy, with whom he had four children in the town of Natick. Joe and Peggy built a summer home in Denmark, Maine, where they loved spending time with family and friends. Later, he worked as head of security at the Boston Garden and for New England Grocers. White and his wife loved to travel, especially to Portugal. Currently, he is a valued resident living in Cornerstone’s Compass Memory Support Neighborhood®, where he enjoys all programs, joins in Men’s Club meetings, and enjoys going out every week with his friends to local eateries.
Mike Damiano, current employee at Cornerstone and former Brockton Police Officer, made this event possible. Other notable people in attendance were members of the Massachusetts State Trooper Association, including Detective Lieutenant Jim Lane, former President of the Mass State Trooper Association, and other members of the board.
Cornerstone at Milford’s Lifetime Achievement Award is an innovative program that celebrates residents’ personal and professional achievements while they are publicly acknowledged in front of family and friends. The event is known to help foster new connections and combat the anonymity experienced by many seniors.
