Standish Village held a “flag-raising” today to celebrate achieving the Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ accreditation. Standish Village is the third provider in MA and fourth Senior Living Residences (SLR) community to become Purple Flag-accredited as part of the organization’s system-wide implementation of the program.

Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ is a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA). The program’s standards evaluate an organization’s capacity to provide collaborative care in a safe, functional and respectful environment, ensuring high-quality care and overall quality of life for residents. As part of the evaluation process, Standish Village had to demonstrate adherence to 60 best practice standards and training outlined by Purple Flag for services provided to individuals with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Standish is now among the 13 Purple Flag communities and counting that have met the standards to elevate care quality for all residents.

The flag-raising event provided an opportunity for the community’s management, staff, residents, family members and local eldercare professionals to celebrate the milestone achievement. The purple flag will now fly in front of the community as a symbol of excellence in dementia care.

“We’re incredibly proud of Standish Village for earning their Purple Flag accreditation,” said  Christopher Carter, President of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA). “They’ve  demonstrated their dedication to upholding the highest standards of memory care that we strive to provide.”

“Being a Purple Flag community means our work doesn’t end here; it is a promise to continue going above and beyond for our residents and ensuring they have the best quality of life,” shared Julie Williamson, Executive Director at Standish Village. “With the stellar team we have here, whose commitment, passion and talent got us this far, I have no doubt we’ll be able to uphold these standards.”

“Creating an accreditation program that focuses on services for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia is no small feat. In doing so, Purple Flag has raised the bar for an entire industry”, explained Tadd Clelland, President & CEO of Senior Living Residences. “Chris Carter and his team are important advocates for improving the quality of life for seniors on a macro level, and I hope more assisted living providers follow suit in striving to meet these essential standards.”
