On Dec.19, nearly 200 bags filled with holiday gifts were delivered to the Bedford Veterans Affairs Peer Services Department by associates at The Cambridge Homes Independent and Assisted Living community.
This “Blessing Bags” initiative was launched seven years ago by Teresa Burns, executive director at The Cambridge Homes, and has helped hundreds of less fortunate families in Boston, Lowell and Cambridge.
Items and bags were donated from residents and families, senior care partners, community members and local businesses and organizations including Tribute Home Care, Boston Children’s Hospital nursing staff, Noah Press Macintyre who runs the Parkinson’s Support Group at The Cambridge Homes, and a senior knitting group from Carleton-Willard Village Retirement Community who knitted hats and scarves.
Proceeds will benefit veterans in need through Bedford Veterans Affairs Peer Services, which provides veterans with support for accessing mental and physical health care, recovering from substance use, acquiring employment and housing, managing finances and developing connections in the community.
