The Longy School of Music of Bard College has partnered with The Cambridge Homes, an independent and assisted living community, to explore “Music as a Healing Art.”
This phrase is also the title of Longy’s course in which they partner with local health care facilities to give their students the opportunity create and develop therapeutic music programs.
The course, taught by Aline Benoit, is designed to expose students to different types of audiences and challenge them to re-define what a performance and a performance space can be. Longy’s students will perform once a quarter for residents at The Cambridge Homes.
The Cambridge Homes will also be collecting data from residents on the outcome of the music students’ performances by distributing surveys. The goal is to be able to provide a summarized outcome study following the end of the semester.
