Neville Place Assisted Living took a virtual trip to the islands with Grab Your Passport Haiti! Residents feasted on delicious Caribbean barbecue and learned about Haitian history and culture.
But the Neville Place community couldn’t keep all the wonderful food to themselves! This Tuesday, July 26th, community members assembled takeaway lunch packages and delivered them to the Belmont Council on Aging.
Grab Your Passport is an innovative Senior Living Residences educational program developed as a way for residents to connect to the world around them, engage with new cultures, and explore new places. On one day each month, residents virtually travel to a different country as they walk around decorated common areas. Staff dress in authentic clothing, and residents listen to traditional music and sample the country’s cuisine. Highlights of the day include hands-on activities and sharing artifacts, family recipes, photos, and stories of past travels. Residents cherish the opportunity to discuss their own experiences abroad while continuing to interact with new cultures.
The Belmont COA is an organization that advocates on behalf of older adults in Belmont and surrounding communities. Their goal, much like that of Neville Place, is to provide the best possible quality of life for seniors through a variety of transportation, nutrition, and social services and programs. They warmly welcomed the Caribbean meals!
