More than 80 years ago, Bill Mercaldi was captain of the football team at Beverly’s Briscoe Junior High when a girl caught his eye. Now approaching their 75th wedding anniversary in August, Bill, 95 and Jane, 96, are proud of the life they’ve built together.
Jane has always been an avid sewer, and went to Chamberlain School of Fashion and Retail, eventually working at a retail store in Boston.
Bill had an impressive career of his own. After receiving his master’s degree from Harvard, he took a job with IBM in 1950 at a pivotal point in computer development. During Bill’s tenure at IBM, the company worked with MIT’s Lincoln Lab to create its revolutionary Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) Air Defense System.
Now in their mid-90s, the Mercaldis are just as lively as ever and enjoy their independence while living at Concord Park.
