Adapting to and planning for each stage of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia can be difficult, but it is helpful to share your concerns and personal experiences with others who completely understand what you are going through. Our Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group is facilitated by a Certified Dementia Practitioner who shares his or her expertise about the disease and arranges for guest speakers who provide specialized information to the group. The COA offers a monthly Memory Café the second Monday of the month. A Memory Café is a welcoming and safe place for people with memory changes to come together with family and friends to focus on their strengths. The Memory Café provides a complimentary lunch and an activity or entertainment. The Concord Memory Café is sponsored by Right at Home, Bedford, and lunch is provided by Concord Park Senior Living. The COA offers a monthly Memory Café the second Friday of the month. Cafés are a place to talk with others who understand what you are going through, to leave behind limitations and instead focus on strengths. Several staff members at Marie Esther Health Care in Marlborough recently participated in Concord Park's interactive and experiential dementia awareness and communication training, led by Director of Compass Programming Mary Baum. This is the latest development in Concord's Dementia Friendly Communities Initiative.
