Methuen Village Shows Commitment to Serving LGBT Older Adults

It is estimated that there are currently around 3 million LGBTQ older adults in the U.S., and that number is expected to grow to around 7 million by 2030 (SAGECare). Methuen Village is the first in Methuen to achieve the Platinum accreditation level from SAGECare, an organization that provides LGBTQ Cultural Competency training and consulting to service providers. Earning this credential is an important step toward the Methuen Village’s goal of providing a network of support for LGBTQ residents, families and associates.

SAGECare is a division of SAGE, the country’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ older adults. The organization’s accreditation process involved an in-person training geared toward Methuen Village’s team of managers, along with a training module for their frontline associates. Throughout the training process, Methuen Village staff learned best practices for building an environment of acceptance and inclusivity that takes into account the different experiences and perspectives that LGBTQ residents bring to the table. This education serves to promote a deeper understanding of the particular cultures, needs and concerns of the aging LGBTQ population.

Methuen Village’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and accepting environment also extends to associates, encouraging them to share and express their unique identities. With their SAGECare achievement and continued partnership in mind, Methuen Village is excited to put their learning into practice and make sure each community member is welcomed with open arms and celebrated for who they are.
