Concord Organizations Partner to Discuss the Healing Power of Nature

Two Concord organizations, The Nature Connection and Concord Park Senior Living, recently teamed up to advocate for the power of nature at the 2018 Alzheimer’s Association Map through the Maze conference.

Nature Connection’s Sophie Wadsworth and Samantha Sheppard along with Mary Baum, Director of Compass Programming at Concord Park presented an hour long interactive panel discussion on The Healing Power of Nature. The two groups have worked together for nearly a decade.

“The residents in our Memory Support Neighborhood have benefited tremendously from having this group lead regular programs that connect them with natural materials and animals,” said Baum. “They essentially bring the outside in. We have one resident in particular who is usually very closed off and unengaged. But when The Nature Connection visits, she lights up, makes eye contact and is extremely engaged and attentive.”

“Nature invites people to be curious, to explore, interact, and share,” says Wadsworth. “When we bring our live animals, plants and natural materials to the residents in Concord Park’s Compass Neighborhood, it reminds us all of all the things that people living with Alzheimer’s can still do, still feel and still experience.”
