Robert F. Larkin President
Robert Larkin founded Senior Living Residences, LLC with Peter Mullin in 1990. They developed one of Massachusetts' first assisted living residences and now own and manage independent, assisted living, and Alzheimer's care communities throughout the state. Over the past two decades, Senior Living Residences has brought numerous senior developments online to maximum operational and financial success.
Mr. Larkin, a founding member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA), has served in many capacities for the organization, including chair of the Board of Directors and chair of the Public Policy and Government Relations Committee. In his leadership roles, he has represented and advocated for the local assisted living industry before various regulatory and legislative forums.
Mr. Larkin is a leading authority on the development and operation of independent senior housing and assisted living, with specific expertise in tax-credit projects and tax-exempt financed projects. He oversees SLR's business development, regulatory compliance, service performance, quality initiatives, sales, and operations of SLR's owned and managed assisted living communities.
Prior to entering the assisted living industry, Mr. Larkin worked in the real estate development and syndication field. He also served in state government as director of the Massachusetts Securities Division, as Massachusetts Deputy Secretary of State, and as an elected representative in the Massachusetts Legislature. Mr. Larkin received his BA from Boston College and law degree from Suffolk University.
Peter G. Mullin Managing Partner
Peter Mullin, co-founder of Senior Living Residences, offers clients expertise in financial forecasting, planning and asset management, as well as project valuation and funding for mixed-income developments.
Mr. Mullin developed and oversees SLR's financial management and reporting systems for the company's owned and managed independent and assisted living communities.
He is recognized as an expert in the development and operation of mixed-income assisted living projects and has spoken nationally on the critical aspects of this type of development.
A founding member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA), Mr. Mullin currently serves on the Board of Directors. For over 10 years he has provided leadership within the organization, including spearheading a successful initiative with Massachusetts state government for the expansion of Medicaid funded assisted living programs and the implementation of a new SSI category targeted at low-income seniors in need of services.
Prior to launching Senior Living Residences, Mr. Mullin served as Chief Financial Officer for a long-term care facility in Boston and as a project planning and budget control manager for a Boston architectural firm. He has a degree in Management Information Systems from Boston University.
Tadd M. Clelland Partner
Tadd Clelland oversees all aspects of the operations and occupancy of Senior Living Residences’ (SLR) portfolio of communities, with SLR community Executive Directors reporting directly to him.
With his specific expertise and interest in residential Alzheimer’s care, Mr. Clelland spearheaded the development of SLR’s innovative treatment programs starting in 2007, and successfully launched the company’s Compass Memory Support Neighborhood® division in 2010. He also managed the rebranding, renovation and reopening of SLR’s flagship Compass community, Compass on the Bay in Boston.
Mr. Clelland’s executive leadership experience also includes operational turnarounds, business development, sales training, and personnel recruitment, development and mentorship. His background includes serving as Executive Director at numerous assisted living and Alzheimer’s care communities in Massachusetts.
Mr. Clelland’s professional affiliations include membership in the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (MassALFA) and the Alzheimer’s Partnerships of Boston, as well as Bristol, Plymouth and Norfolk Counties. He is the co-chair of the Planning Committee of the 2013 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) Dementia Care Conference. Mr. Clelland has represented SLR as a featured presenter at multiple state and national conferences. He is a licensed social worker and has a B.S. in Social Work from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY.
Renee Twerago, CPA, MTAX Chief Financial Officer
Renee Twerago is an accounting professional with over 10 years of experience in privately held growth companies across several different types of industries. She specializes in developing finance and administrative support structures to position companies for the next phase of growth. She joined Senior Living Residences (SLR) in 2011.
Ms. Twerago is responsible for the financial operations of SLR and its affiliates, management of the SLR accounting team and financial reporting operations of SLR’s portfolio of owned and managed assisted living communities. In her role Ms. Twerago develops, implements and maintains financial controls, policies and procedures, and provides reporting to project owners, investors and lenders.
Prior to joining SLR, Ms. Twerago held senior level finance & administrative positions at several growth oriented companies. Most recently Ms. Twerago was the VP of Finance & Administration for Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, LLC, one of the largest Commercial Real Estate firms in Boston, MA. Ms. Twerago is a CPA and earned her BS degree in Accounting from SUNY Buffalo and her Masters in Taxation from Bentley College.
Lee Larkin Corporate Director of Marketing
Lee Larkin, Corporate Director of Marketing, is an award-winning marketing and communications professional specializing in assisted living, health care communications and cause-related marketing. Working with Senior Living Residences (SLR) since 1999, Ms. Larkin has conducted pre-opening marketing campaigns for over 25 assisted living projects throughout New England. She also manages on-going marketing programs for SLR’s portfolio of communities.
Prior to joining SLR, Ms. Larkin ran her own firm, Regan Larkin Communications, providing a full range of marketing services for clients, including strategic planning, web site and collateral development, social media, advertising, direct mail, publicity and referral programs. Among other projects, her agency created and implemented a cause-related marketing campaign for the Massachusetts fishing industry which won the Publicity Club of New England’s top award. Prior to starting her own company, Ms. Larkin was an account executive at Cone Communications of Boston servicing the agency’s top account, Fortune 500 company Bausch & Lomb. Her responsibilities included crisis communications, creation of a national speakers bureau for medical symposia, and sports marketing of contact lenses. Ms. Larkin also served as Director of Public Education for the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission and Director of Communications for the Massachusetts Secretary of State. She started her career in Boston radio as a news writer and assignment editor for Boston’s top news stations WBZ and WEEI.
Ms. Larkin has received professional awards throughout the years for her assisted living, public relations and journalism work, including national awards for assisted living collateral materials, advertisements, direct mail pieces, a website and a television commercial.
Kim Smith Corporate Director Of Dining Experience
A professional with two decades experience in the culinary arts and food service industry, Kim Smith is known in the business for her creativity and signature recipes. She received a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management from Johnson and Wales University, and learned her trade as a sous chef at the El Morocco Restaurant in Worcester, MA. She has an extensive background serving as Executive Chef in senior independent living and assisted living communities throughout New England.
As Corporate Director of Dining Experience for SLR, Ms. Smith oversees the dining programs at the company's owned and managed senior communities. She is responsible for the oversight of budgeting and purchasing, on-site labor, menu planning, customer service, hospitality training, and food service quality assurance. Additionally, she is in charge of developing new recipes and training SLR associates in the company's innovative award-winning Brain Healthy Cooking Program, based on a growing body of scientific research on the important role played by diet in the cause, prevention and management of Alzheimer's disease.
Ms. Smith has received numerous awards for her work, including "Best Presentation of Chocolate" at the New Hampshire Caregivers Association's "Chocolate Lovers Fantasy" event in 2008 and Best Chowder in the Salem Chowder Fest in 2006.
Ms. Smith is Serv Safe Certified. She is a member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA).
Katrina Gove Tax Credit Supervisor
Katrina Gove has an extensive background in assisted living and long-term care in accounting, financial reporting, compliance and administration. She joined Senior Living Residences in 2003 and now serves as Tax Credit Supervisor.
Prior to joining SLR, Ms. Gove served as executive director of The Grace Morgan House, an assisted living community in Methuen, MA. She was responsible for Medicaid Group Adult Foster Care Program billing and compliance for SK Properties of New Hampshire, an assisted living operator with eight communities in Massachusetts. She also has more than a decade of experience in purchasing, compliance and scheduling in the nursing home industry.
Ms. Gove is a member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA). She received her Associates Degree in Business Management from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine.
Nancy M. Crowley Director Of Quality Improvement And Education
Nancy Crowley provides support in resident care, training and education programs for Senior Living Residences' communities. Ms. Crowley joined the Senior Living Residences management team in 2001 as Executive Director of our West Concord community, Concord Park, where she oversaw all aspects of the community's campus that offers independent and assisted living options, as well as a state-of-the-art Compass Memory Support Neighborhood®. She is a Registered Nurse with extensive managerial experience in addition to direct patient care. She is also a Clinical Specialist in Alzheimer's Care.
Prior to her tenure at Concord Park she served as Program Director of the Alzheimer Special Care Unit at Concord Health Care in Concord, MA. Ms. Crowley also served as Director of Education and Training, as well as Program Director of the Alzheimer's Unit at Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Director of Clinical Services for Acton Medical Associates. Prior to her specialization in the senior care field, Ms. Crowley worked for 18 years at Emerson Hospital i n many capacities, including serving as Patient Care Coordinator.
Ms. Crowley is actively involved in many Concord committees and community organizations. She is a member of the Personal Board for the Town of Concord, The Concord Business Partnership, The Concord Lions Club, the West Concord Green Thumbs, the Human Rights Committee for Minute Man Arc, and the Liberty Alzheimer's Partnership. In 2008 she was honored by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women as a "Community Unsung Heroine."
