Meet Our Management Team

Robert Larkin started Senior Living Residences (SLR) in 1990, developing one of the first assisted living communities in Massachusetts and building a management company. Over the past 25 years, SLR has brought numerous senior developments online to maximum operational and financial success. Mr. Larkin and his partners now own and manage over a dozen communities in New England.

Mr. Larkin is a leading authority on the development and operation of independent senior housing, assisted living, and Alzheimer’s care communities with specific expertise in tax-credit and tax-exempt financed projects. He has served in numerous leadership roles for the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA), of which he is a founding member, representing and advocating for the assisted living industry before various regulatory and legislative forums.

Mr. Larkin oversees SLR's business development, regulatory compliance, service performance and quality initiatives. Prior to entering the assisted living industry, Mr. Larkin worked in the real estate development and syndication field. He also served in state government as director of the Massachusetts Securities Division, as Massachusetts Deputy Secretary of State, and as an elected representative in the Massachusetts Legislature. Mr. Larkin received his BA from Boston College and law degree from Suffolk University.

Peter Mullin, co-founder of Senior Living Residences (SLR), offers clients expertise in financial forecasting, asset management, project valuation and funding for senior living developments. He is recognized as an expert in the development and financial operations of mixed-income assisted living projects and has spoken nationally on this topic.

For over 20 years Mr. Mullin has held leadership positions within the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA), including spearheading a successful initiative with the Massachusetts state government for the expansion of Medicaid funded assisted living programs and the implementation of a new SSI category targeted at low-income seniors in need of services.

Mr. Mullin developed and oversees SLR's financial management and reporting systems for the company's owned and managed communities. Prior to launching SLR, Mr. Mullin served as Chief Financial Officer for a long-term care facility in Boston MA and as a project planning and budget control manager for a Boston architectural firm. He has a degree in Management Information Systems from Boston University.

Tadd Clelland, Partner at Senior Living Residences (SLR), oversees operations and sales for the firm’s portfolio of communities, including start-ups and operational turnarounds. Mr. Clelland’s executive leadership for SLR also includes business development and personnel recruitment, development and mentorship.

With his specific expertise and interest in residential Alzheimer’s care, Mr. Clelland spearheaded the development of SLR’s innovative treatment program successfully launching the company’s Compass Memory Support division in 2010, overseeing the rebranding of SLR’s flagship Compass community in Boston, and managing SLR’s affiliation with the Boston University School of Medicine’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center. More recently he oversaw the launch of the company’s program for seniors with early memory loss, ConnectedLIFE.

Mr. Clelland’s background includes directly managing numerous assisted living and Alzheimer’s care communities in Massachusetts as Executive Director. He has represented SLR as a featured presenter at multiple conferences, including the 2013 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference. Mr. Clelland has a B.S. in Social Work from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner trainer.

Renee Twerago, an accounting professional with 20 years of experience in privately held companies across a range of industries, specializes in developing finance and administrative support structures to position companies for the next phase of growth. She joined Senior Living Residences (SLR) in 2011.

Ms. Twerago is responsible for the financial operations of SLR and its affiliates, management of the SLR accounting team, and financial reporting of SLR’s portfolio of owned and managed communities for project owners, investors and lenders.

Prior to joining SLR, Ms. Twerago held senior level finance and administrative positions at several growth oriented companies. Most recently she served as VP of Finance and Administration for Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, LLC, one of the largest commercial real estate firms in Boston MA. Ms. Twerago is a CPA and earned her BS degree in Accounting from SUNY Buffalo and her Masters in Taxation from Bentley College.

Corporate Director of Marketing Lee Larkin, an award-winning marketing and communications professional, manages ongoing marketing programs for Senior Living Residences’ (SLR) portfolio of communities. Since joining SLR in 1999 Ms. Larkin has conducted pre-opening marketing campaigns for over two dozen assisted living projects throughout New England.  

Ms. Larkin’s prior experience includes running her own marketing agency, Ilume Communications, specializing in healthcare communications and socially responsible marketing. At Cone Communications of Boston MA, Ms. Larkin serviced the agency’s top account Fortune 500 company Bausch & Lomb managing crisis communications and creating a national speakers bureau for medical symposia. Ms. Larkin also served as Director of Public Education for the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission and Director of Communications for the Massachusetts Secretary of State. She started her career in the newsrooms of Boston’s top radio stations WBZ and WEEI.

Ms. Larkin has received numerous awards throughout the years for her assisted living, public relations and journalism work.

A professional with two decades experience in the culinary arts and food service industry, Kim Smith is known in the assisted living business for her creativity and signature brain healthy recipes. She received her degree from Johnson and Wales University, and learned her trade as a sous chef at the El Morocco Restaurant in Worcester MA. She has an extensive background serving as Executive Chef in senior living communities throughout New England.

Ms. Smith manages the dining programs for Senior Living Residences (SLR) communities overseeing budgeting, purchasing, on-site labor, menu planning, customer service, hospitality training, and food service quality assurance. She is in charge of the company's innovative award-winning Brain Healthy Cooking Program, based on a growing body of scientific research on the important role played by diet in the cause, prevention and management of Alzheimer's disease. Ms. Smith continually innovates developing new recipes and training SLR associates in best practices related to brain healthy cooking.

Ms. Smith has received numerous awards for her work, most recently being honored as one of the Top 10 Food Service Directors in the United States and recipient of the Premier Illuminating Excellence Award in 2017. She won "Best Presentation of Chocolate" at an event in New Hampshire in 2008 and Best Chowder in the Salem Chowder Fest in 2006.

Katrina Gove has an extensive background in assisted living and long-term care in accounting, financial reporting, compliance and administration. She joined Senior Living Residences (SLR) in 2003, and now serves as Tax Credit Supervisor with specific expertise in tax-credit and tax-exempt financed projects. Ms. Gove’s expertise extends to billing and compliance for mixed-income developments, specifically with the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Medicaid and PACE programs for seniors.

Prior to joining SLR, Ms. Gove served as Executive Director of an assisted living community in Methuen MA and she worked in accounting for SK Properties of New Hampshire, an assisted living operator which developed numerous communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She also has more than a decade of experience in purchasing, compliance and scheduling in the nursing home industry.

Ms. Gove is a member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA). She received her Associates Degree in Business Management from Thomas College in Waterville ME.

Nancy Crowley provides direct support to Resident Care Departments in Senior Living Residences' (SLR) communities overseeing the consistent implementation of SLR’s policies and procedures, as well as assisting communities with their state re-certifications. Ms. Crowley joined the SLR management team in 2001 as Executive Director of Concord Park, located in West Concord MA.

Ms. Crowley is a Registered Nurse and a Clinical Specialist in Alzheimer's Care with extensive managerial experience in addition to direct patient care. Prior to her tenure with SLR, she served as an Alzheimer’s Program Director for several long-term care facilities in the Concord area, Director of Clinical Services for Acton Medical Associates, and as Patient Care Coordinator among other roles for Emerson Hospital in Concord MA.

Ms. Crowley has been actively involved in many Concord committees and community organizations over the years, including the Concord Business Partnership, the Concord Lions Club, the Human Rights Committee for Minute Man Arc, and the Liberty Alzheimer's Partnership. In 2008 she was honored by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women as a "Community Unsung Heroine."
